How switching works

The Current Account Switch Service makes switching easy. Your incoming and outgoing payments will be transferred automatically. And if you do a full switch, you’ll be covered by the Current Account Switch Guarantee.

The service is free to use and you can choose your switch date with us. Once the switch has started, it takes just 7 business days to complete.

You should review our switching guide for information on how switching works and the Current Account Switch Service Terms and Conditions.

We’ll contact you within 1 business day to confirm that we’ve received your request. We’ll also confirm your agreed switch date.

If you requested a full switch as part of your current account application, we allow time for you to receive your account information, debit card and PIN before your switch begins.

Once your switch has started, it will take 7 business days to complete.

The Current Account Switch Service will arrange for payments from your old account to move to your new account.

Until your switch is complete, scheduled payments will continue to be made from your old account. Make sure there is enough money in your old account to cover these payments.

On the final day, we’ll transfer the remaining balance to your new account and close your old account. We’ll let you know when your switch is complete.

Any money sent to your old account will automatically be sent to your new account for 3 years after your switch.
