Card freeze

When your card is frozen, all card controls will be turned on and your card cannot be used. This can help protect your money if you’ve mislaid your card.

You can instantly turn card freeze on and off whenever you like.

Joint account card settings

Your card settings only apply to your card, not any other card on the account.

Card controls

Card controls allow you to manage specific transaction types on your account. When you switch a control on, that transaction type will be blocked on that card.

Here’s what happens with each card control.

Online payments

Block all one-off card and digital wallet payments made online through a website or app, such as to online retailers.

In-person payments

Block all chip and PIN and contactless (card and digital wallet) payments made in person, such as in shops and restaurants.

Contactless payments

Block all card and digital wallet payments made with a contactless card reader.

ATM withdrawals

Block all cash withdrawals from ATMs (cash machines).

Gambling

Block card payments made to gambling businesses who run betting and wagers, such as:

  • lotteries
  • casino games, including online
  • horse and dog race betting, including off-track
  • other games of chance to win money prizes

Payments will still go through to (and you will be liable for payments to):

  • non-gambling businesses
  • gambling businesses we cannot identify

If you choose to allow gambling payments again, there will be a 48-hour cooling off period where they will still be blocked. This gives you time to think – you can turn the control back on instantly.

Abroad transactions

Block all in-person payments and ATM withdrawals made from outside the UK.

Online payments will not be blocked, including payments to companies based outside the UK.
